Poem: Before the Night Takes You Away
Before the Night Takes You Away
One
day you came and told me you had to go.
Silently,
I looked at you with all my heart but couldn’t find the words to say.
I
didn’t know what you wanted to hear from me and didn’t know what I wanted to
hear from you.
I
stood there in silence and watched in loneliness as you turned and walked away.
I
wanted to reach out and hold you back, but you slowly disappeared into the
night.
I
stood there thinking about tomorrow without you not knowing what I’d said or
done to make you walk away.
I
wondered if it was just you who wanted to go.
I
wanted to make you happy and wanted things to always be perfect, but I couldn’t
be the person making all the things in this world as lovely as they could get.
You
never shared your thoughts with me and never told me what you were feeling
inside your heart.
Maybe
I was always the one who thought too much about us.
Maybe
I was the one who thought we could be together forever.
In
reality, you were the one who was thinking of someone else.
I
can’t change the future and can’t say anything to change tomorrow because no
matter what I say now, you’d never come back.
You’ll
never love me like you once promised you would.
